There is a famous quote that I think was said by Pablo Picasso, “All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.” I’d like to challenge Mr Picasso and say that we are all forever artists but some of us just forget. I have met extraordinary artists who picked up their pencils and paint brushes decades after they last flexed their creative muscles and have re-awoken their forever artist that had to sleep while the courses were studied or the promotions were attained or the children’s lunches were made. This picture is to remind us that the child we see floundering away with their scribbles and scrawling is already an artist and how wonderful it is to honour that innate part of them. And also to remind those of us who may have forgotten this part of ourselves that it has never left us. I think there’s very few people who can deny that at times we can actually hear our forever artist calling out for expression. I say be brave and just do it. Being arty is such a wonderful gift we get as humans.
