This was composed in a way that I hope will be a visual journey for the audience. Firstly the viewer is drawn in and up close to the image to see what the woman is holding and once you’ve seen it you can’t unsee the delighted child being held in her hands as you step back to appreciate the dramatic contrast in size. Imagination is of such vital importance to this world. For me this tiny child is imagining itself to be the whale. Something extraordinary, wise, fearless, powerful beyond measure and still kind and gentle. And of course the child is imagining itself to be a space whale. They are after all the coolest kind of whale in the universe.
